Softball team earns top seed in league

Thursday, May 16, 2019 by CHUCK HIXSON in Sports

As the top-seeded softball team in the Colonial League playoffs, the Lady Tigers had to sit back and wait this past weekend while four other teams battled in the wild card round of the Colonial League playoffs. Little did they know that their layoff would be as long as it has, with rain wiping out games early this week.

The result is that Northwestern Lehigh hasn’t played since it beat Catasauqua last Wednesday on Senior Day.

On that day, everything was functioning as it should...

With rains wiping out games early in the week, the Tigers have had a longer layoff than expected. That can make a difference...

The Northwestern girls’ 4x800 relay team knows how much distance they separated themselves from the rest of the Colonial League with its seed time throughout the regular season.

Thursday, May 2, 2019 by CHUCK HIXSON in Sports

In the third game of the season, Northwestern traveled down Route 309 to challenge Southern Lehigh. The Lady Tigers came away with a 12-1 win and it was perceived as somewhat of an early message that Northwestern (14-3 overall, 11-2 Colonial) was going to be very good this season.

The two teams met again recently and this time it was Southern Lehigh that delivered a message with an 8-3 win.

The Lady Spartans (13-4, 11-3) came out swinging and put up four runs in the first...

Girls lax makes progress during inaugural season

Friday, April 26, 2019 by TODD KRESS in Sports

Northwestern girls lacrosse head coach Lissa Opolsky has always remained optimistic during her field hockey coaching days. And that hasn’t change in her first season leading the Lady Tigers’ girls lacrosse program.

Opolsky and the Tigers expected the 2019 spring season to be a challenging one, considering the fact the sport has only been around at the youth level for a few years in New Tripoli. Despite the losses on the field, including a tough stretch as of late, Northwestern is...

The Northwestern baseball team in a good spot for the rest of the season. The Tigers’ 8-1 win over Notre Dame (Green Pond) on Monday put them at 12-2 overall and 10-1 in the Colonial League. They’re currently 3 ½ games ahead of Southern Lehigh for the West Division lead and they can add some distance with a win over the Spartans at home Thursday afternoon.

The Northwestern schedule is spread out enough so that it can get work for its top pitchers, but still keep them relatively fresh...
