Change is a way of life.
And if the Colonial League gets its wish, there will be some major changes in the near future.
At a meeting of athletic directors and principals Tuesday at Catasauqua, it was unanimously decided to invite two "bigger" schools to join their league.
The invitations went out Wednesday.
Bryan Geist, Northern Lehigh's AD and vice president of the Colonial League, wouldn't release the names of the schools, but it was reported Tuesday night that...
Northwestern High School may not have a swimming team, but that doesn't mean the area can't produce the top talent when it comes to District 11 swimming.
Two years after Northwestern representative Madison Burns dominated two races at the district meet, sophomore Trey Shackleton was equally impressive in black and gold, bursting on to the scene by setting a pair of district records to capture gold medals in each of his swims.
"It's kind of cool," Shackleton said. "I always say...
The middle school years are a lot of fun for students. They slowly begin to gain more freedom in school so that they can get a little taste of the high school life. Also, once they leave the elementary school, students can become student-athletes and play scholastically for their school.
At Northwestern Lehigh Middle School, there were a lot of young student-athletes growing and blossoming out on the hardwood this winter.
The B team of the Tigers' middle school squad includes...
Mike Ortiz has waited a long time for the right to wrestle in the PIAA Championships.
With his second-place finish at last weekend's Southeast Regional Tournament, the Northwestern senior earned his first trip to states, which began Thursday at Hershey's Giant Center.
"It makes me feel better about missing those years in that I'm accomplishing what I set out to 13 years ago," he said. "You never know what can happen."
Ortiz has been one of District 11's best wrestlers...
Nicole Sagl not only competed in the District 11 Diving Championships last year, she won gold for Class 2A. Even so, the Central Catholic student who lives in the Northwestern School District was tense coming into this year's meet.
She was able to overcome it and put together an 11-dive program good enough to repeat as the district champion.
Sagl finished with a score of 396.5, well ahead of second-place finisher Emily Marshall of Southern Lehigh, who scored a 307.0. Both Nagl...
To say the Northwestern wrestling team had a tough act to follow after last year's district tournament would be an understatement. The Tigers crowned two champs last year, with Mike Ortiz (152) and Levi Veppert (182) both earning gold.
Veppert graduated, but Ortiz returned to capture his second consecutive gold medal, this time at 170-pounds. Ortiz came into the tournament as the top seed and left little doubt that he was the class of the field.
Ortiz moves on to regionals this...
They might not get to hang a banner in the gym. But the Lady Tigers' season was still a successful one.
The team won 20 straight games, finished the regular season at 21-1 overall and 15-1 in Colonial League play.
Three losses in their last five games wasn't the way anyone thought the season would end, but it shouldn't take away from the pride this team can take in all it accomplished.
"I look back at the season as a success," said Northwestern head coach Chris Deutsch...
The Northwestern Lehigh boys basketball program is building from the ground up. That growth starts at the lowest levels and works its way to the varsity team.
A big stepping stone for players is the junior varsity level.
With first year head coach, Pat Wanamaker, the Tiger junior varsity team fought hard all season long and finished with an 11-11 record.
Wanamaker, who was a volunteer assistant at Northern Lehigh the last five years, says his players exceeded his...
