Third-grade students at Northwestern Elementary performed "Beach Day" for parents and peers May 17 at the high school.
Shawn Fies, music teacher, began writing musicals for third-grade students in 2008, beginning with "Science Musical." In 2009, he wrote "Space Adventure," then "Pearl of the Night" in 2010 and "Fractured" in 2011.
His goal is to help the students study for the PSSA test by turning facts about the solar system, the weather and more into song.

Before the end of the school year, 475 students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Weisenberg Elementary participated in activities designed to teach them about Earth Day.

Alana Harrington, who graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School, was awarded a $750 scholarship by Ai Orthodontics, Emmaus.
Alana is the daughter of Patrick and Dolores Harrington of New Tripoli.
She has been involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Ignite Youth Group, Northwestern Lehigh Varsity Football, Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Youth and is a member of the National Honor Society.
She plans on attending Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall to study biology and pre-med.
