Students from Patti Greenawalt’s fifth-grade class learned how to be safe at home, school and within their community Oct. 5 at Northwestern Elementary School.
Kindergarten students learned how to dial 911.
They also learned the difficulties of being a firefighter and navigating through a burning house.
Some of them also were instructed on Halloween, farm and social media safety.
There will be an open house Nov. 8 at Northwestern Lehigh High School for community members to view upgrades made during the renovation of the school.
Visitation will occur 6 to 7:15 p.m. with the dedication and ribbon cutting taking place 7:30-8 p.m.
There will be community information booths and a student activity fair.
Everyone is invited to the celebration.
The Miller Keystone Bloodmobile will be at Northwestern Lehigh High School 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 1.
Community members are invited to stop by and donate the gift of life.
The Northwestern Lehigh Alumni Association is hosting a basket bingo at the Lynnport Fire Company on Oct. 28.
Doors open at noon. Bingo begins at 1 p.m.
Food will be available to purchase.
Wear a costume to be entered into a free raffle.

For Madison Kocher, the conclusion of the Weekend Food Pack program at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Slatington, meant one day closer to the successful completion of her Girl Scout Gold Award.
Madison spoke during the Breakfast Bunch program, where kids and their parents enjoy a free breakfast Monday through Friday in the summer.
“I saw the need and thought, ‘What are they going to do for food?’ ” she said. “After the first week, I saw how the parents and kids showed their appreciation.
“It made me feel like I was making a difference in their lives.”
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is encouraging students from across the commonwealth to participate in the 27th annual Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest.
The contest is open to all Pennsylvania students in kindergarten through 12th grade, including those who are home-schooled or in private or parochial schools.
Students may enter through their schools, clubs or Scout troops, or individually.
Entries must feature a clear no-use message about underage drinking and may be created using any artistic medium.
