Elizabeth M. “Betty” Schmidt, 98, of Schnecksville, died May 18, 2018, in At Home at Parkland, where she received wonderful, loving care.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 62 years, Werner G. Schmidt.

Born Dec. 12, 1919, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Laura (Hewlett) Scarborough.

She was the oldest parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Egypt, Whitehall.

Wallace Ray Fenner, 91, of Breinigsville, died May 12, 2018.

He and his wife Doris May (Kaniper) Fenner were married nearly 73 years.

Born in Bangor, he was the son of the late Earl G. and Edith (Williams) Fenner.

Retired from truck driving and previously the owner of the Breinigsville Hotel from 1971-81, he earlier farmed from 1946-59.

During his retirement years, he vacationed with family, built homes, refurbished tractors and attended tractors pulls.

He was a member of the Plow Boys and enjoyed hunting with family and friends.

Althea M. Oswald, 84, of New Tripoli, formerly of Coplay, died May 8, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

She was the wife of the late Sterling A. Oswald.

Born July 1, 1933, in Ironton, she was the daughter of the late Morris M. and Ida Mae (Warke) Muthard.

Her survivors include children Gregory S. Oswald and his fiancée Samantha T. Johnson of New Tripoli, Linda M. and her husband, Harvey L. Yerger of Coplay, Brenda J. and her husband, Kerry L. Baldwin,with whom she resided; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Richard R. Cole, 67, of Allentown, died May 8, 2018.

He and his wife Kathleen A. (Weikel) Cole were married 46 years.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Richard J. Cole and June (Wagner) Zoppi, and stepson of Vincent Zoppi.

He was a building mechanic at the former Western Electric and Agere for 32 years.

Cena M. Adam, 99, of New Tripoli, died May 12, 2018, in The Summit Nursing and Rehab Center, Lehighton.

She was the widow of Paul V. Adam.

Born in Orefield, she was the daughter of the late David F. and Edna (Ross) Schaffer.

A proofreader for the Morning Call from 1956 to 1979, she later was an assembler for General Electric until she retired.

She was a member of Christ’s Church at Lowhill in New Tripoli.

Jane Hammel, 88, of Exton, formerly of Newtown Square, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Sunrise of Exton Senior Living.

She was the wife of the late Warlyn F.V. Hammel.

Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Alvin O. and Perma T. (Kuhns) Peters.

She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse at various health care institutions in the Philadelphia area.

Michael D. DeLong

Michael D. DeLong, 35, from Hatfield, was stricken and died May 9, 2018, in his home.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of David H. DeLong III and Dianne (DiLella) DeLong of Allentown.

He would have celebrated his 36th birthday on May 11.

A Class of 2000 graduate of Parkland High School, LCCC and Kutztown University Class of 2004, he was employed by Wegmans for 20 years, most recently serving as a manager at the Warrington location.

He was an avid Lehigh Valley sports fan but his true passion was his Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Braves.

Donna L. Hartman

Donna L. Hartman, 79, died Dec. 21, 2017, in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall.

The daughter of the late Howard C. and Una L (Smith) Hartman, she is survived by a sister, Eleanor U. Petrich of Cherryville.

She was predeceased by siblings Carl R., Howard C., and Nevin C. Hartman.

Her graveside service will be noon May 18 in Jacob’s Union Cemetery, 8373 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA 18066.

The Rev. Michael Hothouse will officiate.

Dr. Kenneth E. Benson

Dr. Kenneth E. Benson, 89, of Fogelsville, died May 1, 2018, in Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township.

He was the husband of the late Florence S. (Henderson) Benson.

Born in Indianapolis, Ind., he was the son of the late C. Herbert and Beulah Faye (Roberts) Benson.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.

Earning a doctorate from Lehigh University, he was employed at Lucent Technologies as a solid-state materials scientist for 40 years before retiring in 1994.
