PA 2-1-1 now available

PA 2-1-1, which connects people who need help with critical services and volunteer opportunities, is now available in the Lehigh Valley area.

PA 2-1-1 East is a free, comprehensive, information and referral program and one of seven regional 2-1-1 call centers in Pennsylvania.

The toll-free telephone number offers information and referrals for a broad range of services including basic needs, food banks, child and elder care, health services, housing, support groups and more.

Allentown AARP Chapter 5415 will meet noon Sept. 6, at St. Timothy's Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown.

The program will feature David Kalinoski, associate state director of AARP, Harrisburg, who will present a game named Fraud Bingo.

A business meeting will follow the program.

Bring a non-perishable food item for the Allentown Food Bank. Guests are always welcome.

Event on Aug. 24, 25

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will have its annual Blues Nite Out with entertainment and refreshments on two evenings in the church grove.

The Bryant Brothers will perform 7-10 p.m. on Aug. 24. Groovitude, from Center Valley, will be on stage 4-6:30 p.m. Aug. 25

Sarah Ayers will be returning to Neffs grove from 7-10 p.m. Saturday.

The menu includes sausage sandwiches, turkey barbecues and hot dogs.

There will be chili on Friday and pulled pork sandwiches and shrimp delight on Saturday.

Homemade baked goods and ice cream will also be available.

The Weisenberg Low-hill Township Historical Society will have its quarterly meeting and picnic 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department, Golden Key Road.

A pot luck supper will be served, so bring a covered dish and/or dessert, along with folding chairs.
