Lehigh Gap Nature Center awarded TogetherGreen grant

Toyota and the National Audubon Society have announced $37,419 in TogetherGreen Innovation Grants funding has been awarded to two Pennsylvania-based projects that will demonstrate the ecological value of Early Successional Scrub Habitat and create a rare plant trail that exhibits threatened, endangered and extirpated plants of Pennsylvania.

Stormy sky clears for Night in the Country

Many who came early to Night in the Country while there was full daylight were telling each other to check out the view.

A motorized parasail was circling above the Aug. 18 celebration.

At 6:30 p.m. the first bang could be heard as Celebration Fireworks continued preparing for the extravaganza that would end the annual event at 10 p.m.

Patrick Duncan added his 1967 Volkswagen dune buggy to the field of antique and classic cars.

He owns a couple Mustangs but the buggy was ready after two years of work and he wanted to show it off.

Keystone Consulting Engineers resumes duties as zoning officer

Newly hired Heidelberg Zoning Officer Ron Helman has submitted a letter of resignation, Director of Office Operations Forrest Wessner III reported at the Aug. 9 supervisors meeting.

Wessner, who said Helman was finding the job too much along with his work for Coplay Borough, thanked him for his three months of service and wished him well.

Later in the meeting, Wessner recommended reappointing Keystone Consulting Engineers, Wescosville, to serve as zoning officer for the rest of the year.

Firefighters' relief association in compliance, Wagner says

An audit of Heidelberg Volunteer Firefighters' Relief Association has determined it was in compliance with tested laws and regulations between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2010.

"We commend the relief association management in this Lehigh County VFRA for complying with all applicable state laws, contracts, bylaws and administrative procedures," Auditor General Jack Wagner said Aug. 13. "The proper management of funds ensures they will continue to support local volunteer firefighters who bravely put themselves at risk to help protect their neighbors' health and property."

Spoatyahr Fesht on Sept. 8, 9

Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society will be having its Spoatyahr Fesht noon-6 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 at the old Zimmerman's Hotel, 4590 Werleys Corner Road, New Tripoli.

This year, the theme is "Ten Years of History" as they celebrate the historical society celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Musical entertainment will be provided by "Jack Snyder and Friends" on Saturday, and by "The Majestics" on Sunday.

Each band will perform three sets from: 2-2:45 p.m., 3:15-4 p.m. and 5-5:45 p.m.
