Firefighters respond to truck fire on -78.
The bottom line on Lowhill Township's 2013 budget shows the amount left over after subtracting total expenditures from the total amount available for appropriation.
This amount is $1,647,130, more than double the $769,600 of total expenditures projected for 2013, and a 9-percent increase over the $1,507,370 balance projected for 2012.
This increase is due partly to a 9-percent decrease in general government expenditures from 2012.
"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," a one-act show, is being presented by local Christian theater group, Players of the Stage.
Based on Barbara Robinson's work of the same name, the play tells the story of six delinquent children who go to church for the first time after being told there will be snacks served.
Despite protests from church members, the youngsters are given roles in the Sunday School's Christmas play.

Eleven skinned canines found 4 p.m. Nov. 23, off Quarry Road, near Lower Macungie Park, may be adult foxes, not dog puppies.
According to an article published Nov. 27 in The Press' sister paper, the TIMES NEWS, in Lehighton, necropsies performed Monday show at least one of the animals was killed by buckshot. The others may have been trapped.
The article states Lehigh County Humane Society Shelter Manager Cary Moran said the eye sockets and teeth suggest the animals are adult foxes.
Fox hunting is legal in the state from October to February.
Cetronia, Greenawalds and Woodlawn fire departments, along with Cetronia Ambulance Corps crews, were dispatched 9:35 p.m. Nov. 20 for a kitchen fire in an apartment at Luther Crest Retirement Community, 800 Hausman Road, South Whitehall Township.
Volunteer firefighters from Cetronia Engine 311, who were first on scene, used a hose to put out the remaining fire after the sprinkler system limited spread of the fire.
Many residents in their bathrobes and slippers were forced to leave the building due to the fire.
With budget season behind them, Lehigh County commissioners convened Nov. 20, to address a handful of reappointments and bills.
The board unanimously voted to reappoint Commissioner Percy Dougherty to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission and Susan Schmidt, of Emmaus, and Sally Schoffstall, of New Tripoli, to the Lehigh County Aging and Adult Services Advisory Council.
Commissioners also unanimously approved a lease of county-owned property along Riverside Drive, Salisbury Township, to White Deer Run Inc. for use as a rehabilitation center.
