New Life Lutheran Church members visit Panama

New Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Tripoli, sent a mission team to San Felix, Panama, for a second time in August.

Pastor Scott Lingenfelter and his daughter, Melinda, joined Jessica McCullum, Chelsea Ritter, Jimmy and Monica Betancourt for a week of service with the church's mission partners in Panama.

Ritter was actually in Panama for two months helping to teach English in the school.

Emily Remaly is not afraid to travel to a foreign county to attend school.

Her choice of schooling is unique compared to most teenagers her age.

The Northwestern Lehigh High School junior was recently selected to participate in the 2012-13 Rotary International Student Exchange program sponsored by the Allentown West Rotary Club 7430 District to study in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The daughter of Lisa and Richard Remaly of Germansville, Emily, 16, heard about the program via an announcement at her school last spring.

She asked her parents if she could apply.

Schpotyaahr Fescht celebrates a decade of history

"All aboard for Werleys Corner," Bill Townsend said at the end of the song, "The Orange Blossom Special," played by The Majestics at the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society's annual festival.

A storm cut short the festivities on Sept. 8 but the grounds were crowded on Sunday.

Townsend asked for a round of applause for the volunteers who "had some bad weather last night.

"Let's hear it for the historical society."

"Orange Blossom Special" was played in response to a request for some fiddle music by Phil Meek.

Slatedale-Emerald Lions help fellow club with food trailer

The Slatedale-Emerald Lions Club wants to become better known in the community. It is looking for service projects in the Washington-Heidelberg communities, Club President Jen Lynch said. The club was also generous, lending its food trailer to the Mountainville Lions Club for a fundraiser at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

Two season tickets for the IronPigs are being offered as a raffle. The drawing will be March 24, 2013.

Three townships celebrate Emergency Preparedness

Four days days after the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the morning after the emergency response to Parkland High School, volunteer firefighters and fire police from South Whitehall, North Whitehall and Upper Macungie townships, Northern Valley and Cetronia ambulance corps personnel, State Police Troop M, South Whitehall Police, and Berks-Lehigh Regional Police, township staff, including public works, CERT teams, responded to 501 Cetronia Road, South Whitehall.

No, it wasn't an emergency situation.
