New Tripoli Fire Company, 7242 Decatur St., New Tripoli, is opening its doors Jan. 17 to Pennsylvania Dutch classes under the auspices of Don Billig.

Classes will run from 6:30-8 p.m. every Thursday until the end of April.

LOWHILL TWP: Zoo celebrating Penguin Awareness Day

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, is hosting Penguin Awareness Day with feedings of the African black-footed penguins 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 20.

There will also be a fun assortment of conversation, crafts and activities.

Stop by the Bison Room and make a penguin bracelet, then see if it matches any of the penguin’s identification bands at the zoo.

LYNN TOWNSHIP: Living Stone Fellowship offering community meal

Living Stone Fellowship, New Tripoli, will have its monthly Family and Community Get-Together on Jan. 12.

The free meal features pizza and salad, followed by the movie “Same Kind of Different As Me.”

NORTH WHITEHALL: Union Lutheran kids buy chicks and piglets

Children at Union Lutheran Sunday School are collecting pennies as their contribution to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America World Hunger program.

They showed up at the God’s Work, Our Hands event last fall with piggy banks, pots, coffee cans and plastic bags all filled with pennies.

At that time, the group had amassed $120 for the ELCA World Hunger piglet campaign.

The amount enabled needy families to receive piglets.

Ebenezer Church UCC, New Tripoli, is offering after-school homework help.

The program provides tutoring, homework help, materials and resources for projects.

NORTH WHITEHALL: U.L. Lions Club celebrates 71 years

The Upper Lehigh Lions Club is celebrating its 71st year with 62 members dedicated to serving the local community and some national and worldwide endeavors.

Recently, the club presented a check for $3,000 to the Center for Vision Loss to help screen children for eye issues and to assist with expenses of the organization.

The club donated $200 to Family Promise to help families who are homeless, decorated the township Christmas tree and sponsored a spaghetti supper to benefit the Schnecksville Fire Company kitchen rebuilding fund.

HEIDELBERG TOWNSHIP: Food pantry seeking volunteers

Calling all retirees! Heidelberg Association of Retired Persons, better known as H.A.R.P., will meet 11 a.m. Jan. 8, 2019, in fellowship hall at Heidelberg Union Church.

In addition to a friend or two and a covered dish to share for lunch, bring along your favorite board game, cards or anything to enjoy an amusing afternoon of game playing.

Remember you do not need to be a Heidelberg Church member to attend. All retirees are welcome.

UPPER MACUNGIE: New Year’s Eve fun for kids

Upper Macungie Township will host a Kids Noon Year’s Eve 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Good Will Volunteer Fire Company, 7723 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown.

This free event will have something fun to do for the entire family.

There will be a balloon drop at noon, Dazzling Doodles face painting, games, giveaways and DJ JJ Sands.

Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
