Yard, bake sale on Sept. 14, 15

The Lutheran Church Women of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 4118 Main St., Slatedale, are sponsoring a yard and bake sale 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 14 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 15.

There will be fresh-baked cakes, pies and goodies, homemade soups, haluski, hot dogs, soda, barbecues and coffee available for hungry yard sale shoppers.

The sale will take place in the downstairs social room.

All are invited to shop for special treasures.

pastor of Faith Wesleyan Church

The Rev. David P. Zeravsky, 52, of Orefield, died Sept. 8, 2012, in his home.

Born May 15, 1960, in Memphis, Tenn., he was the son of Dorothy (Bickert) Smell of Northampton. His father is Richard Boehm of Lady Lake, Fla.

He was predeceased by his dad, Paul Zeravsky, and his stepfather, Robert Smell.

He and his wife of 26 years, Lorri L. (Dettmer) Zeravsky, were married June 14, 1986.

He served the Lord as pastor of Faith Wesleyan Church, Orefield, and was the former pastor of Neptune Wesleyan Church, Neptune, N.J.

Clinic set for Sept. 16

Forgotten Felines and Fidos animal shelter, Germansville, will be holding a vaccination clinic for dogs from 11 a.m.-noon and cats noon-2 p.m. on Sept. 16.

There is a fee for all canine and feline vaccines and distemper shots and heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Lyme and Ehrlichia testing and FeLV testing .

Proof of current vaccine is needed.

All dogs must be leashed and cat must be in carriers.

Discussion on camping

The Lehigh Valley Horse Council will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 20, at Jacobsburg Evironmental Center, Wind Gap, at the horse trailer parking lot on Belfast Road.

The program will be "Camping Made Easy for You and Your Horse," with guest speakers Carolyn Cook and John Spots.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Leon E. Reichard

member of Morgenland Union Church

Leon E. Reichard, 69, from Fogelsville, died Aug. 27, 2012, in his home.

He and his wife Nancy E. (Lewis) Reichard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 21.

Born Nov. 15, 1942, in Lowhill Township, he was the son of the late Paul W. and Eva M. (Derr) Reichard.

He was a dye technician at Packaging Corp. of America, Trexlertown, for 42 years before retiring in 2004.

Since his formal retirement, he worked part time for NAPA Auto Parts, Fogelsville, where he delivered parts.

He was a member of Morgenland Union Church, Orefield.

Country life? Think twice

Q. Isn't living in the country healthier than living in the city?

I don't think there's a definitive answer to that question. My first reaction to this inquiry was that life in the country is much healthier. It seemed obvious because of the crime, pollution, crowding and stress of the city.

However, the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) provided me with some surprising information that made me rethink my answer.

Joni Young has been appointed Director of Bariatric Services, Sacred Heart Hospital.

Young's primary responsibilities include managing the development and execution of Bariatric program goals, completing financial analysis and formulating plans to accomplish objectives.

She previously was a Healthcare Consultant and Regional Manager for the Cardiac Service Line, St. Luke's University Health Network; a Manager of Operations, Pocono Medical Center, and Director of Patient Services, PPNEP.
