Talk on pastels

The Bethlehem Palette Club January program meeting is 1:30 p.m. Jan. 20, Banana Factory, 25 W. Third St., Bethlehem.

There will be a demonstration by pastel artist Susan Ketcham, signature member of the Pastel Society of America.

The program is free and open to the public. Non-members are welcome to attend.

'Amazing Grace' celebrates 90 years

Grace Irene Hunsicker Snyder celebrated her 90th birthday with more than 60 friends and relatives at Country Meadows, Allentown.

Grace, who lived and farmed with her parents and later with her husband, Daniel Nathan Snyder, in the New Tripoli area most of her life, was born on July 28.

She knew there was going to be a party for her, but that is all she knew. The remainder was a surprise.

Grace, who in her teen years, would occasionally write poetry, was delighted when the short program opened with the singing of three of her favorite hymns, including "He Touched Me.

Car strikes bridge

in Lynn Township

James Bachman, 41, of New Tripoli, was driving a 1998 Audi at 6:15 a.m. Dec. 16, 2012, when the car struck a bridge at the intersection of Springhouse and Mosserville roads, Lynn Township, State Police Troop M Fogelsville say.

Trooper Curt R. Schillinger responded to a report of a vehicle in the roadway with a person inside slumped over the steering wheel.

Police say after Bachman was awakened, he allegedly exhibited signs of impairment and was allegedly driving under the influence.

Recycling event on Jan. 19

Northwestern's Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions is having a free electronics recycling day 9 a.m.-noon Jan. 19 in the Northwestern Lehigh High School parking lot, 6493 Route 309, New Tripoli.

Monetary donations go directly to the school's S.A.D.D. chapter.

Free items include telephones, cell phones, computers, DVDs, VCRs, filing cabinets, LCD, CRT monitors and projectors, stereos and speakers, cables and cords, printers, fax machines, copiers and more.

SAT review course on Jan. 12

Penn State Lehigh Valley will offer an SAT review course to help prepare test takers for the SAT exam 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays Jan. 12-March 2, 2013, at the Center Valley campus, 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley.

The course offers strategies for the verbal, critical reading and writing, and math portions of the exam.

Participants can develop effective critical reading and writing strategies, review essential mathematical skills and concepts and discover proven test-taking techniques.
