Four Tigers place at Holiday Classic

Wednesday, January 3, 2018 by PETER CAR in Sports

One thing that Northwestern’s wrestling coaches have wanted to see more from Caleb Clymer is his ability to attack on his feet. After winning the 170-pound championship in Friday’s finals of the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic, Clymer still feels he needs work on his neutral game, but if he can ever put that together with the rest of his arsenal, he’ll be a force in the postseason.

Clymer used a second period tilt over Pennridge’s Logan Green to build a 3-0 lead heading into the third period before completing a 5-0 shutout for the title.

INSTANT CLASSIC: Nazareth beats Becahi for state wrestling title

Saturday, February 11, 2017 by PETER CAR in Sports

Were you entertained?

Saturday’s PIAA 3A wrestling state championship between Bethlehem Catholic and Nazareth came down to the final bout, where the winner took all and Zac Kiefer instantly became a Nazareth legend, following his 2-1 victory over Tavion Banks in the 170-pound finale to give the Blue Eagles a 30-29 state championship victory over Bethlehem Catholic.

It was a stunning match from start to finish and that we’ll likely never see again.

It’ll also be one that Hawks’ head coach Jeff Karam will never forget either, of course, for all the wrong reasons.

Wednesday, December 21, 2016 by PETER CAR in Sports

There’s a new summer basketball tournament in town and it hopes to fill some of the holes that high school coaches have talked about for years with the July tournament dates.

Glenn Klein, the veteran basketball tournament director for the Stellar Construction Catch A Rising Star showcase, is going solo and forming the Cedar Beach Basketball Showcase from June 22-25.

Klein has directed and organized summer tournaments over the past 37 years and feels the time is right now to branch off to put together a different tournament.
