Thanks to a few days of warmer weather, this year's trout opener that kicks off March 29 in 18 southeastern counties, should not have snow covered banks if they get direct sunlight. The remainder of the state has an April 12 opening.
Drivers who fuel their vehicles at the Exxon UniMart on Route 309 in Walberts, South Whitehall, may have noticed a different type of fuel pump.
According to Ann Marie, day manager at the store, many motorists pull up to the pump and think it's gasoline.
But it's not.
The pump is the first Compressed Natural Gas filling station in the Lehigh Valley.
Owned by Lehigh Gas Company, headquartered on Hamilton Street, Allentown, it took the company some time for the Environmental Protection Agency and South Whitehall Township to approve its installation.
Anglers from surrounding states fish it, even visitors from out of the country have dipped a line in it. It's a famous trout stream and it's here in our own backyard.
The Little Lehigh Creek, all 25.4 mainstem stream miles of it, is a year-round trout fishery that beckons avid fly fishers and - during the trout season - bait fishermen of all ages. A portion of it is even designated as Class A Wild Trout waters.
