Bittners, Werleys gather for 109th family reunion

Thursday, July 11, 2013 by MARY BITTNER HENRY Special to The Press in Local News

Bittners and Werleys recently traveled to Weisenberg Lutheran Church for their 109th family reunion.

Weisenberg was the home church for many of the Bittner and Werley descendants.

This can be verified by the names on the tombstones in the cemetery.

The annual gathering began as the Bittner reunion in 1900, but due to the number of Werley families who intermarried with the Bittners, the event became known as the Bittner and Werley Reunion in 1904.

Ledgers from 1900 include rosters of forefathers who settled in the Weisenberg Township area.
