WEISENBERG TWP: Mei Liewe Freind,

Thursday, January 16, 2020 by MARY BITTNER HENRY in Columns

Here is a bit of local history. Some of the roads can be translated as follows: Grundsau Road (Groundhog Road), Fensamaus Road (Chipmunk Road) and Weissenbergh (White Castle or Fortress).

Many family names are now street addresses: Loch Valley, (Seip)stown, Werley’s Corner, (Seiberling)sville, (Hyneman)sville, Kistler Valley and Holben Valley.

There are many other examples of honoraria in the township.

The “History of Weisenberg Township (1753-1976)” has a wealth of information on the local area.

Ferhuddled English in Reading: A hand-printed sign on a freshly painted park bench reads “Keep the Paint Off.” A New York City tourist stopped at a small Berks County hotel and asked, “Can you give me a room and a bath?” The Dutchman responded “I can give you the room but you must take your own bath.”
