Author visits Northwestern Elementary to discuss his newest book

Author Matthew Cody recently visited Northwestern Elementary School to share his newest book in the Pied Piper Series, titled “The Magician’s Key.”

Ally Long, Kayla Schwarz, Noah Chandler and Kole Kostic were chosen to read Cody’s introduction:

“Good morning! I’d like to welcome author Matthew Cody to our library. Thank you for coming to visit us today.

“Mr. Cody was raised outside of St. Louis, Mo., and he loves comic books.

PSSA tests are quickly approaching.

The following are the grades and dates: Grades 3, 4 and 5: English Language Arts, April 4-7; Grades 3, 4 and 5: Math, April 25-27; Grade 4: Science, May 2 and 3.


Weisenberg is getting ready for the PSSAs with Hats Off to Us! on March 27. Students and staff are invited to wear their favorite hats or headpiece.

On March 28, Test Taking Superstars’ Day is Dress Your Best! It is also Spring Picture Day.

Aevidum’s Family Film Night will feature “The Jungle Book” 6-8 p.m. March 16 in the high school auditorium.

There will be fun, friendship and food. Receive a snack-size popcorn and water with a $5 donation.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Bo Tkach Foundation to assist with the shared mission of supporting mental health awareness. Bring family, friends, and neighbors!


Northwestern Lehigh High School’s chapter of Science National Honor Society is inviting students to take part in the science fair.

There will be no school March 10 for a teachers in-service day.

Parents are asked to call during the school day March 14-17 and schedule an appointment for their child’s kindergarten registration April 19 and 20.

Registration is for children who will be 5 on or before Sept. 1.

Parents and guardians may also visit to schedule an appointment for registration.

There is no school March 10 for Teacher In-service day.

Middle School

The Middle School Library is looking for LEGOS to use for the LEGO Wall located in the library.

If you have any LEGO’s that your children no longer use, consider donating them to the library.

You can send your donations to school with your student or drop them off in the front office.

Your donations will be put to good use and will be used by all students.

High School

Dr. Suess Week will be Feb. 27 through March 3 at both elementary schools.

Students will participate in many different fun activities throughout the week.

Northwestern Elementary

The Book Trade will once again be held at the school.

This year’s event begins with the fifth grade on Feb. 27, fourth grade on Feb. 28, third grade on March 1, second grade on March 2 and first grade will visit the Book Trade on March 3.

Weisenberg Elementary

Weisenberg is enrolled in the Giant A+ School Rewards Program.

Book Trade will begin Feb. 27. The exchange schedule is fifth grade on Feb. 27; fourth grade, Feb. 28; third grade, March 1; second grade on March 2; and first grade, March 3.

Weisenberg Elementary

Wacky Week, in honor of Dr. Seuss, is Feb. 27 through March 3.

Feb. 27 is pajama day, featuring “The Sleep Book; Feb. 28 is Twin Day, featuring Thing 1 and Thing 2; March 1 is Wacky Hair Day. Whoville will be the featured story that day.

MS, HS Happenings

There will be early dismissal on Feb. 17. Middle school will be dismissed 10:50 a.m. and high school at 11 a.m.

Schools and offices will be closed Feb. 20 for Presidents Day.

Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation is having a Flapjack Fundraiser 8-10 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Applebee’s, Cedar Crest Boulevard, South Whitehall.

Author Dianne Salerni will be visiting the middle school Feb. 28 during Read Across America Week.

High School

Boosterthon raises funds for Makerspace

Once again Northwestern Elementary students are using the Boosterthon to raise funds for their school.

Last year, they raised over $16,000 for field trips and assemblies.

This year, they are attempting to raise $20,000 for Makerspace, as well as field trips. Makerspace is designed to assist teachers in the integration of math, art, science and more into their curriculum.

During a recent assembly, students learned about the Boosterthon.

The Northwestern Elementary Black and Gold Dash culminated Feb. 9 with a glow run in the gym.

There will be a noon dismissal Feb. 17. There will be no morning kindergarten that day.

There will be no school Feb. 20 for Presidents Day
