“Tutu Tuesday evolved as a way to celebrate having Whoopi, a Seeing Eye pup in training, in our school,” second grade teacher Laura George explained.
Last year, Whoopi attended school with George every Wednesday and spent the day in the classroom working with the students as well as accompanying them to other classrooms.
George said bringing Whoopi to school would be a great way to prepare her as a helper dog, perhaps even in a classroom somewhere.
Students at Northwestern Elementary recently enjoyed a visit from Tony Swartz and his Seeing Eye Dog, Starlet, as part of Safety Day at the school.
Laura George, a second grade teacher is part of the Seeing Eye program, who “adopts” a helper dog and raises it for a year and a half, after which it will be returned to The Seeing Eye Inc., Morristown, N.J.
