Weisenberg third graders visit fire station

Third-grade students from Weisenberg Elementary School were recently welcomed to the Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Department, Station 51, where they learned about fire safety and toured the station.

Volunteer firefighter Randy Zack discussed fire safety at home with his young audience.

"Every floor in your home should have at least one smoke detector," he told the group.

Zack then presented a video showing how quickly a fire can start when a hot hair dryer is thrown onto a bed and then covered.

There will be no school Nov. 7 for a teacher in-service day.

Report cards will be distributed Nov. 10.

Northwestern Elementary

Veterans Day will be celebrated Nov. 11. Students are asked to wear red, white or blue.

There is a Partner In Education meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 13 in the cafeteria.

The first marking period awards assembly will take place Nov. 14.

Morning kindergarten, first- and second grades assembly will be 9:30 a.m. that day. Afternoon kindergarten, third-, fourth- and fifth grade assembly will be 2 p.m.

Leo Club inducts new members at high school

The Northwestern Lehigh High School Leo Club recently inducted new members into their group.

Marsha Johnston, a retired Northwestern Elementary teacher, is the club advisor.

Each member was introduced and was welcomed by Lions District 14-K Gov. Fred Folland.

Folland spoke to the students about the organization they would be joining.

"Membership in a Leo Club is a privilege," he said, adding the program expanded throughout the world after its inception in Pennsylvania in 1967.

The Fall Fun Festival is scheduled for Oct. 31. Students will enjoy a day of learning and fun.

The school will be celebrating Veterans Day Nov. 11. Students will be bringing home information on special activities.

Weisenberg

Elementary

The fall fun festival at Weisenberg is scheduled for Oct. 31.

There will be crafts, class photo, science activity/experiment, story and song and fun learning activities.

There will be a roller skating party 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Skateaway.

Kindergarten students will be taking a field trip to Byler's Farm on Oct. 24.

All morning and afternoon kindergarten students are to attend in the morning.

Interact Club particpates in Snack Pack program

Christ's Church at Lowhill Food Pantry has partnered with the Rotary Club of Allentown-West to sponsor the Snack Pack Program.

Many local businesses, individuals and the Northwestern and Parkland Interact Clubs have provided assistance.

Donations have also been received through a grant from Rotary District 7430 and Rotary International.

The grant is offered to local clubs that do good deeds for their communities and for local families.

They are in the process of applying for the same grant again this year.

Students may pre-purchase books autographed by Palatini.

Students may also enter a random drawing to win lunch with the author by putting a Tiger paw into the special "Author Lunch" cans in the library.

Winners will be chosen Oct. 20.
