The Fifth Grade Finale between students of Northwestern and Weisenberg elementary schools will take place May 22 at the Northwestern Recreation Commission fields. Rain date is May 24.
Students should bring along a water bottle and sunscreen that day to school.
Fifth-grade students will have their artwork displayed and share what they learned in band and chorus throughout the school year at the spring concert and art show 7 p.m. May 17.
Elementary Challenge will take place between Northwestern and Weisenberg’s third and fourth grades at the Recreation Fields on May 15. Rain date is May 18.
Fifth grade students will visit the middle school on May 14 for orientation.
They will receive a tour of the school and learn what may be expected of them in the new school year.
There will be a PIE meeting 6:30 p.m. May 14 in the cafeteria.
The fifth grade band and chorus concert will be presented 7 p.m. May 17.
The public is invited to attend.
Teachers at the elementary schools thank all the parent volunteers who have assisted with the various activities and events through the year.
Time to check the balance in lunch money accounts to make certain there will be enough money to last until the end of the school year.
The final lunch of the year will be on June 8. All debts to the food service department for the 2017-18 school year are due by June 12.
Any leftover money in the students’ accounts will carry into the next school year.

Illustrator Ralph Masiello recently visited Northwestern Elementary because his friend David Biedryzcki, an author who visited the school previously, cannot stop praising the school’s staff and students.
Masiello shared some of his history with the students.
As a child, he lived with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
When Masiello was in first grade, his teacher told his parents to help him become an artist.
There will be early dismissal for elementary schools at 11:25 a.m. March 29.
Schools will be closed March 30 and April 2.

As a way to give back to the community, the Deutsch Eck Restaurant, 87 Penn St., Lenhartsville, has organized a Plate It Forward campaign.
During March, the recipient of this fundraiser will be the Northwestern Lehigh Snack Pack Program.
When a customer orders any Pennsylvania Dutch special throughout the month, $1 from each special will be donated to the recipient.
On March 15, the meal will be chicken potpie; March 21-23 will be chicken and waffles; and March 28-30, the meal will be pig stomach.
PSSA tests are coming this spring. Grades three, four and five schedules are: April 10-13, English Literature Arts; April 17-19, math and grade four April 24 and 25, science.
Girls on the Run registration is now open to girls in third, fourth and fifth grade.
Starting on March 13, the girls will meet after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 5:15 p.m. at Northwestern Elementary.
The program will end with a 5K run and celebration with over 500 Lehigh Valley ladies.
