Northwestern Lehigh School directors meet in the district board room 7 p.m., on the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be Oct. 16.

High School

The high school will have a teacher in-service day Oct. 14. School will not be in session.

Middle School

The middle school PTO meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11.

The meeting will finish before the end of the scheduled half-day.

Northwestern Elementary

Northwestern Elementary will host safety day 9:15-11:45 a.m. Oct. 4.

Middle school game day is a hit with students

Fun and games reigned on Sept. 20 as Northwestern Lehigh Middle School’s PTO hosted its annual game day.

The weather was picture perfect, not too hot and not too cold.

There were clear skies and lots of kids.

Game Day is a one-day event that offers all sorts of games, activities and food as a welcome to all new students.

The incoming sixth grade enjoyed the festivities after school outdoors as well as indoors.

The art room is accepting donations of craft items or art materials no longer needed at home.

LYNN TOWNSHIP: Pioneer Apple festival on Oct. 5

Kids are back in school. The leaves are changing and there is an ever so subtle cooling down of the temperature.

This can only mean one thing — It’s time for the Pioneer Applefest at Ontelaunee Park.

Celebrating 15 years of fun and history, the festival, sponsored by the Lynn Heidelberg Historical Society will be held, rain or shine, 10 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Ontelaunee Park.

There will be pioneer and Native American demonstrations, live music, hayrides, tractor and classic car displays.

If you prefer paws to wheels, check out the dog agility demonstrations.

Albany Twp residents express concerns about spotted lanternfly

John Nissen, service forester with the state Bureau of Forestry, Berks County, did not want to spend a lot of time talking about the spotted lanternfly when he recently visited the Kempton Fire Company social hall.

Albany Township Environmental Advisory Council hosted Nissen for a conversation titled “Protecting Your Backyard Trees and Woodlots.”

Still, a packed house of concerned residents, peppered Nissen with a variety of questions about that one pest.

Walkers program helps students be more physically active

Every Wednesday during recess, weather permitting, there is a group of purpose-driven Weisenberg Elementary students doing laps around the entire playground.

These purpose-driven youngsters are rewarded with beads which they can use to craft a necklace of their favorite colors, school colors or even spell out their names.

The walking program started about four years ago as a way to encourage students to be more active.

Angela Schmoyer, coordinator and PTO volunteer, has a tray of beads which are used as incentives to make the exercise worthwhile.

High school open house highlights opportunities for students

Northwestern Lehigh High School hosted an open house Sept. 5 for students and parents.

Superintendent Jennifer Holman, Principal Aileen Yadush, Assistant Principal Donald Allen, as well as teachers and staff members welcomed visitors for an informational evening.

Parents toured the school and met teachers to hear what will be taught for the 2019-20 year.

For students, attending the evening had an added benefit other than showing their parents around.

In the cafeteria, several of the high school clubs were represented by classmates.

LYNN TOWNSHIP: Lynnport Fire Co. having anniversary festivities

Lynnport Fire Company, Behler Road, Lynnport will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sept. 7.

Parade begins 2 p.m. and doors open 3 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.

The formal program with speakers commences at 4 p.m.

There will be a disc jockey and dancing until 8 p.m.
