Two Northwestern senior wrestlers competed in the PIAA Southeast Regional Tournament last weekend at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.

Wrestling at 145 pounds, the Tigers’ Harrison Bernhard dropped his opening bout 12-4 to Michael Duggan of Boiling Springs.

Bernhard bounced back to beat Nick Bratspis (Lower Moreland) 4-3 in his first consolation match. He stayed alive with a win over Northern Lehigh’s Trevor Amorim in the next round of consolations, earning the 100th win of his career.

Bernhard’s run came to an end in the fourth round of consolations when he fell to Bailey Gimbor (Hamburg) 8-1, coming one win short of placing at regionals.

Northwestern’s Ryan Haverkap also competed at Freedom last Friday and Saturday.

Haverkamp was pinned in his first bout by West Perry’s Brad Morrison, but he also bounced back with two wins in the consolation bracket.

Haverkamp pinned Isaac Buser (Eastern York) in 2:18 then put Gabriel Kolasa (Schuylkill Valley) on his back in 2:04.

Haverkamp came one win from placing when he lost to Tamqua’s Nate Wickersham by fall in the fourth round of consolations.
