·Compeer of the Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem, seeks volunteers willing to be a friend to someone in need in Lehigh and Northampton counties. Volunteers are matched with a member who is in stable mental health recovery to spend a minimum of four hours a month engaging in activities they both enjoy (talking, walking, playing cards, etc.). A similar program Compeer Corps is also looking for peer mentors for service members to enhance their self-esteem, reduce dependency, and create a strong/supportive environment.

·Friends of Johnston Inc., Bethlehem, seeks volunteers to help decorate for the holidays by putting up lights, making wreaths, garlands and centerpieces. Volunteers are also needed to help with Santa’s breakfast Dec. 15. Santa’s helpers will market, secure donations and sponsorships, decorate, set up, take down, serve and run Santa’s workshop projects for the kids.

·Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, needs volunteers to help wrap Christmas gifts that have been provided by Friends of Gracedale Foundation for their 650-plus residents.

·Holiday Hope Chests need volunteers to donate wrapped shoe boxes filled with age appropriate items for Lehigh Valley’s children in need. Suggested gift lists are provided on the Volunteer Center website. This program, coordinated by the Volunteer Center, is a great project for large/small groups, clubs, classes, families and individuals.

·Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall, needs volunteers to escort residents to their in-house beauty shop Tuesdays.

·Community Services for Children Inc., Allentown, is looking for volunteers to coordinate collection drives for gender-neutral, cold weather items (coats, hats, mittens, scarves, etc.) for children ages 0-5, and age-appropriate, new or gently used books for 0-12 years (especially multi-lingual).

·Phoebe Health Care Center, Allentown, several volunteer opportunities are available for the holidays.

·Salvation Army Childrens Services, Allentown, is looking for a group of volunteers to create a brand-new Trauma Therapy Room for foster and adoptive children. Call Jessica Jacobs at 610-821-7706.

·Center for Animal Health and Welfare, Easton, is seeking volunteers to walk dogs, assist with morning cleanings, attend off-site events to promote the shelter, cat and dog enrichment and general shelter help.
