Foreign language club celebrates Oktoberfest with good food and fun

Members of the Foreign Language International Club at Northwestern Lehigh High School staged a scaled-down version of Oktoberfest in early October.

Their version of the popular celebration featured food and music.

“A student made sausages with potato roll sandwiches and we ate pretzels, too,” said Paul Tomlin, adviser. “We played polka [tunes] and other popular German music while the kids ate. It went really well.”

German teacher Ella Koch made an appearance over Flex to join in the festivities.

“Frau Koch answered questions about Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich,” Tomlin said.

Fun and food were not the only things on the mind of the FLIC members.

“It was a recruiting opportunity, too,” said Veronica Walker, a member of the group.

Jillian Fink couldn’t agree more.

“FLIC is a good way to learn about different cultures and spend time with friends at the same time,” she said.

The group is planning a trip to Spain for 2021.
