Northwestern recorded a sweep in a Colonial League tri-meet.

For the Tigers, Madeline Consuelos (800, 1600), Justin Rodda (100, long jump) and Michael Marrazzo (discus, javelin) all captured two first-place finishes.

Saturday, March 30

Northwestern-Liberty

Liberty defeated Northwestern in a nonleague game, 9-4.

Brooke Veit scored four goals for Liberty.

Bailey Schultz had a pair of goals for Northwestern, while Reagan Hernandez and Kate Edgar each scored once.

Both goalies, Liberty’s Rachel Johnson and Northwestern’s Maxine Hoffman, made four saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Monday, March 25

N’western-Scranton Prep

Northwestern picked up its first win in the short history of its boys varsity lacrosse program with a 6-5 victory at Scranton Prep.

The Tigers’ Cole Norman scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Zach Rosamalia with seven minutes left in the game. Northwestern’s defense, anchored by goalie Tyler Lobach, held the lead from there.

Norman had a pair of goals in the game, while senior Zach Anderson and Rosamali each scored two goals apiece. Lobach made eight saves.

The game was just the second in the history of the program, which is in its inaugural season.

BASEBALL

Monday, April 1

N’western-Moravian Ac.

Derek Holmes’ eight RBIs highlighted Northwestern’s 25-14 win over Moravian Academy.

Holmes also finished with two singles and a triple for the Tigers (4-1), while Brandon Mengel had a four-hit day. Mengel added four singles, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Carter Welch (single, triple, four runs scored, RBI), Rafe Perich (single, triple, three runs scored, three RBIs), Colten Hagadus (two singles, three runs scored, three RBIs) and Vince Castrine (single, double, a run scored) all contributed in the offensive explosion.

Tamaqua-Northwestern

Northwestern pounded out 12 hits to topple Tamaqua in nonleague action, 12-6.

The Tigers received strong outings from Rafe Perich (2-for-3, three-run homer, 4 RBIs), Derek Holmes (2-for-2, solo HR, three RBIs), and Nick Henry (1-for-4, two-run HR).

For the Blue Raiders, Nick Breiner finished with two hits, including a double, and scored two runs, while Tate Ligenza was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Carter Welch went the distance on the mound and added two hits at the plate to lead Northwestern to a 6-5 win over Southern Lehigh.

The Tigers received two hits from Rafe Perich, Nick Henry, and Colten Hagadus. Henry scored a pair of runs, while Hagadus knocked in two runs. Vinnie Castrine also scored two runs for the winners, who took the lead for good with a four-run third inning.

Palmerton-Northwestern

The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Palmerton 2-1.

Nick Henry’s 2-RBI single score Rage Perich and Carter Welch and ended the game.

Saucon Vy.-Northwestern

Saucon Valley rallied with a four-run seventh inning to post a 9-6 win over Northwestern.

The Tigers opened the game with a three-run first and then held onto a 6-5 lead entering the seventh inning.

Rafe Perich paced the Tigers with three hits, while Nick Henry chipped in with four RBIs.

Morgan Farthing’s big day sparked Northwestern’s 20-7 victory over Palisades.

Farthing posted a 4-for-5 performance, recording two doubles, a home run, a single, a run scored and eight RBIs for the Tigers. Anna Akelaitis chipped in with three hits, five runs scored and four RBIs; Emily Akelaitis added two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs; Brynn Balliet had three singles and four runs scored; Kylie Zentz had two hits and two runs scored; and Molly Mitman had a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Morgan Farthing and Emily Akelaitis both had big games at the plate to help lead Northwestern to a 12-1 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Farthing had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs and knocked in two. Akelaitis also finished with three hits, three runs and two RBIs.

Akelaitis gained the pitching win, striking out six and allowing just three hits and one walk.

The Tigers received two hits and two runs from Molly Mitman, while Olivia Stofflet added a pair of hits and an RBI.

Palmerton-Northwestern

Palmerton used the long ball to power its way to a 6-1 win over Northwestern.

The Bombers’ Megan Green and Kailah Altemose both delivered solo home runs.

Lexi Merkel tossed a complete game two-hitter, which included a dozen strikeouts and no walks.

The Tigers’ Emily Akelaitis prevented a shutout with a solo home run in the last inning.

Saucon Valley-N’western

The Tigers belted 19 hits and scored 20 runs in a 15-run rule win over Saucon Valley.

Molly Mitman went 4-for-5 with three runs in the win. Morgan Farthing was 3-for-3 with a triple and a grand slam. Olivia Stofflet went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Brynn Balliet batted 2-for-2 with a triple and a home run.
