Janet M. Forse, 90, formerly of Macungie, died on Jan. 30, 2019, in Luther Crest retirement community South Whitehall, where she resided.

She was the widow of H. Gassaway Brown and Edgar H. Leander.

Born in Binghamton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Walter C. and Helen M. (Brigham) Forse.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Upsala College and a Master’s degree in social work from Temple University.

She worked as a therapist and social worker in Denver, Colo., Lehigh County and Warren County, N.J.

Very active in the women’s movement, having served as past president of N.O.W. of Pennsylvania, she also worked on the suicide hotline for Lehigh County, and for the former Allentown State Hospital.

She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem.

Her survivors include children Susan Leander, wife of I. Jay Freedman, of Dresher; Allison Leander-Kucsan, wife of Gary, of Fogelsville; Jeffrey Leander and wife, Sheryl, of Raleigh, N.C.; one stepdaughter; four stepsons; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Feb. 16 in the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley, 424 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18018, with Rev. Don Garrett officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.
