founding member of St. Thomas More

Mary Kathryn Surdoval, 89, of Macungie, died peacefully June 28, 2018, at home, surrounded by her family.

She was the loving wife of the late John A. Surdoval, to whom she was married more than 58 years until his death in 2014.

Their wedding took place at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Carbondale.

Born Sept. 6, 1928, in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Loretta (Duffy) Doyle.

She graduated from Ben Franklin High School and Lackawanna Junior College.

A founding member of 52 years at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, she also did volunteer work for St. Thomas More School.

Her survivors include children Joseph J. Surdoval and wife Debra of Allentown, John F. Surdoval of Macungie, Patricia A. Riola of Bethany Beach, Delaware, Carol C. Surdoval of Macungie, Scott M. Surdoval and wife Colleen of Stewartsville, N.J.; grandchildren James, Kelly, Sabrina, Austin and John Finn Surdoval, and Nicholas and Alexander Riola; and other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her brother Edward Doyle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. July 7 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, with the Rev. Msgr. John P. Murphy as celebrant.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church narthex. Interment will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville.
