Roy C. Kern, 94, of Schnecksville, died Feb. 8, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He and his wife Annie M. (Schneck) Kern were married 70 years last June 21.

Born May 20, 1923, in Schnecksville, he was the son of the late Roy J. and Mildred M. (Schumaker) Kern.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II earning the rank of staff sergeant.

Instrumental in maintenance and repair of the “Flying Tigers” during the China, Burma, India Theater of operations, he served two years in China during the war.

Co-owner and business manager of the former Roy J. Kern Trucking, Excavating and Quarry for 47 years, he retired in 1985.

He was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs.

A charter member of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club, Schnecksville, he was a past president and Melvin Jones Fellow recipient, and was a director emeritus of the Lehigh County Agricultural Society.

He enjoyed traveling and many years of golf trips with his buddies at the former Blue Ridge Country Club, Palmerton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Barbara A. Kern Lamb (Dallas) of El Cajon, Calif.; son Brian R. Kern (Colette) of Schnecksville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Terry V., and a brother Vernon G. Kern.
