There will be early dismissal Feb. 16. Elementary students will be dismissed at noon.

Afternoon kindergarten students are to attend school in the morning. There will be no morning kindergarten that day.

Schools and offices will be closed Feb. 19 for Presidents Day.

Northwestern Elementary

Congratulations to the students of NWE who raised almost $16,000 as of Feb. 9 during their Boosterthon Fun Run.

They want to raise $20,000 so they can watch Principal Maria Pulli be slimed.

The music department is accepting donations of instruments to aid families who are unable to rent or purchase an instrument.

Donations to the school become the property of the district.

The NWE Book Trade will be Feb. 26 for fifth grade; Feb. 27, fourth grade; Feb. 28, third grade; March 1, second grade and March 2 for first grade.

Girls on the Run registration is now open to girls in third, fourth and fifth grade.

Beginning March 13, the girls will meet after school Tuesdays and Thursdays at Northwestern Elementary until 5:15 p.m.

The program will end with a 5K run and celebration with more than 500 Lehigh Valley ladies.

Weisenberg Elementary

Caren Frost Olmsted is visiting Weisenberg as part of the artist in residence program.

She will be working with students to paint a mural on the wall outside the cafeteria.

Olmsted as drawn the outline of the mural and the students are filling it in with colorful paint.

The dedication of the completed mural will be 6-8 p.m. March 22 at the Festival of the Arts.

Read Across America (Wacky) Week will take place Feb. 28 through March 2.

Students and staff are invited to participate in celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday by dressing up. On Feb. 26: The Cat in the Hat, wear Red, White and Black; Feb. 27, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut, wear a readable shirt.

Feb. 28 is Who-ville, Wacky hair day. March 1 is The Foot Book, wear fun footwear, and on March 2, dress as a favorite book character.
