Northwestern Elementary School fourth grade students recently sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Oh Shenandoah” for a recorded musical segment, which aired on Veterans Day, on Tiger Vision TV.

The students were under the direction of Brittany Baumeister.

Baumeister explained the importance of song “The Star Spangled Banner” to her students.

“It is a song that represents our freedoms that were fought for by our ancestors and perhaps people in our lives today and approached with respect,” she said.

Bonnie Millward, physical education teacher, also gathered the names of veterans and posted them on stars surrounded by red and white stripes in the rotunda.

Students gave a special performance on Veterans Day for Millward as she was on jury duty the day of the original performance.

The recorded segment can be accessed by visiting nwlehighsd.org and clicking on Northwestern Elementary in the school’s drop down menu.
