Tiger cheeleaders place second in CL
Northwestern Lehigh High School’s cheerleaders took second place in the Game Day Division at the Colonial League Cheerleading Competition last Wednesday at Catasauqua High School.
“This year, everybody brought it,” said Northwestern cheerleader Emily Witt. “We were really happy we held our second-place title.”
The Tigers had placed second in the Colonial League competition last year.
“We were really confident in Game Day,” Witt said. “We only lost by six points this year, and that improved from last year.”
Wilson High School’s cheerleaders placed first in Game Day, and Pen Argyl placed third.
The Tigers also competed in the Competition Division but did not place despite celebrating a solid routine after they performed.
Instead, Wilson took first place, Southern Lehigh was second and Pen Argyl was third.
“From a cheerleading standpoint, some of the girls were bummed, but we were happy with the routine we had,” said Witt. “We put a lot, and I mean a lot, of work into our competition routine. Everything hit.”
Northwestern cheerleading coach Kristie Dangello understood the disappointment but recognized the personal victory for her squad in the Competition Division.
“This is the first year we competed in the Competition Division,” Dangello said. “What they performed was the best they had ever done. The coaches could not be more proud.”
Members of the Northwestern varsity cheerleaders are seniors Megan Rebert, Kylie Rosamalia, Attie Fogal, Witt, Katie Narkin and Sandra Williams; juniors Myah Sarwar, Victoria Walker, Lexi Sohaney, Madison Hoffman, Camille Stanley and Madison Schettig; sophomore Makenna Long and Andi Frano; and freshmen Abbie Peters and Carly Fogal.
