Thursday, November 3, 2016 by Debra Palmieri in Local News

Two candidates are seeking the seat representing the 132nd Legislative District.

Democrat incumbent Mike Schlossberg will face Republican Ben Long in the Nov. 8 general election.

The 132nd Legislative District includes Allentown Wards 6 (Div 2), 8 (Divs 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), 10 (Divs 3, 4), 11 (Divs 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), 13, 14 (Div 1), 15, 17, 18 and South Whitehall Township districts 1, 2, 7.

The Press asked the candidates the following question: Why are you the best candidate for this office?

Their responses follow.

Mike Schlossberg

Unlike too many elected officials and candidates, I have a real record of success. I’ve helped bring home record funding in education and transportation, which has helped to create jobs, educate our kids and hold the line on property taxes. I’ve also built bipartisan relationships, which have enabled me to pass legislation which protects victims of domestic violence, rape and children. I’ve also been very open about my own battles with depression and anxiety, using my experience to help break the stigma which surrounds mental illness. I’m a pragmatist, not an ideologue, and this is reflected in my compromise votes on budgets, liquor modernization, pension reform and transportation improvement.

Ben Long

Call me an idealist but I believe our politicians should be answering to the people, not politicians, not special interest, or party elites. It is time we put an end to self-serving politicians and elect someone who is going to fight for you, the tax payer. I work for my families small business, I know what it takes to create family sustaining jobs. I am a worker, not a talker. I am a product of our local public school system. This area is my home, and no one will work harder to truly represent the people of our community.”
