High School football scores Sept. 28
Emmaus, Parkland, Bethlehem Catholic, Liberty and Northwestern all pulled off big wins Friday night. Here’s a recap of the action. For more about the games see this week’s issues of the Lehigh Valley Press.
Emmaus 37, Freedom 35
Lubens Myers ran for three touchdowns as the undefeated Hornets beat the Patriots 37-35.
Emmaus (6-0) bhuilts a 30-14 lead in the third quarter before Freedom (3-3) and quarterback Joe Young, who passed for three second-half touchdowns, battled back.
Myers finished with 120 yards on 13 carries for Emmaus. The sophomore running back also had a 78-yard kick off return to set up his first score.
Emmaus kicker Carson Landis made field goals of 22, 28 and 44 yards.
Parkland 26, Whitehall 14
Frank Guida ran for a pair of touchdowns in the Trojans win over the Zephyrs.
Jahan Worth had 183 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries for Parkland (5-1). Guida had 20 carries for 105 yards.
Zach Gilbert threw for 114 yards and a touchdown for Whitehall (3-3).
Bethlehem Catholic 20, Easton 9
Bethlehem Catholic’s defense turned five turnovers into 17 points in Friday night’s 20-9 victory over Easton. It was the first win for the Hawks (5-1) over Easton (2-4) since 2002, as Nick Petros led the night with two interceptions and a TD catch.
The Hawks defense has now surrendered 16 points over the last two weeks as they head into a pivotal week six clash against Parkland.
Liberty 37, Dieruff 10
The Hurricanes fell behind early before beating Dieruff 37-10.
Liberty (4-2) trailed 10-0 in the third quarter before scoring 37 unanswered points.
Northwestern 15, Saucon Valley 6
The Tigers knocked off the previously-unbeaten Panthers, 15-6
Northwestern (4-2) jumped on the board when Trevor Cunningham returned a first-quarter kick-off 96 yards for a touchdown. Phil Dangello scored the Tigers second touchdown on a two-yard run.
Catasauqua 43, Wilson 26
Palisades 42, Salisbury 14
Nazareth 35, Northampton 13
