Mertz returns for Lehigh
Several former Northwestern Lehigh High School athletes will compete on college teams this fall.
Lehigh University’s leading goal-scorer, Northwestern grad Sabrina Mertz, returns for her sophomore season on the Mountain Hawks’ soccer team after posting seven goals in 2015. That tally didn’t just lead Lehigh, it also ranked fourth among all Patriot League competitors. Mertz, who played in all 18 games, also added three assists and totaled 17 points in her first college season while occupying the midfield position.
Angela Motolese’s second college season will have a different feel and look to it. The former Fairleigh Dickinson midfielder, where she played in 10 games and scored one goal, transferred to Kutztown University to continue her soccer career.
A year after redshirting due to an ACL injury, former Tiger Sarah Segan is on track to take the field for the first time this season at William & Mary. Segan scored twice in helping lead the Tribe to a 5-0 victory in an exhibition game against Liberty University last week.
Sophomore defensive back Taylor Breininger and sophomore offensive lineman George Haddad return to the gridiron for Moravian in 2016. Breininger played in every game last year and recorded 13 tackles, while Haddad saw action in two games.
Lehigh freshman wideout Cam Richardson returns for his second season on the Mountain Hawks’ football team. Lehigh opens the season against Monmouth on September 3.
